The “Family Meeting” Campaign

~This is a Culture Correcting, Personal Value, Family Cohesion Activity~

The absolute Center of our ARC Grassroots Universe is The Family; and this also includes what we term, “The Extended Family”

that includes; Teachers, Church Leaders, Coaches, Scout Leaders, Relatives, etc.

Regardless of where or who you are in the world, when a new member of society in born, he/she is taken into and becomes a member of the Family. It is in the Family that the baby will learn what it means to be warm and cold, dry and wet, fed and hungry, held and secure and/or left alone and wanting. Baby will also learn from family whether or not he/she is valued, whether the world is a safe and good place or whether it is a bad unpredictable and violent place. It is within the Family that baby is introduced to our Culture and Societal Norms - the dos and don't s of living in our world. It is also from which baby is introduced to the other Institutions that will continue to culture baby into an adult member of Society. Thus, the Family becomes the center-most Institution within our Society and lays the foundation for all the rest. Family is the Center of the Universe!

OUTLINE:

1.  Establish a specific time and place for your Family Meeting. Decided if weekly or every other week.

2.  Get a journal and decide who will keep the notes from the meetings.

3.  Write down each Family Member's name in the journal and the topic of their discussion.

4.  One person is in charge of the meeting – the “Moderator”; but it changes each time so everyone gets a chance to be “in charge.”

5.  Each Family Member gets the same, specific amount of time to talk.  We suggest about 5 minutes plus 2 minutes for discussion.

6.  Each Family Member can speak about whatever they want to, but keep it to one or two topics per member, or you'll be there all night.

7.  While talking, the other Family members should remain respectful. No interruptions, no arguing, no negatives. Questions at the end.

8.  Once done, everyone is on the same page and understands the concerns each Family Member has. Communications is open.

Mutual respect is experienced. Harmony is maintained and continues in the Family Unit. Kids do your Homework. Have a nice day.

NOTES: It is the Moderators responsibility to keep the meeting orderly and organized, calm and collected. Each member of the Family gets their time and gets to say anything that they want to during their time. After each member speaks a short discussion should follow to make sure that the topic and the concerns are understood by everyone.

Remember; People, especially younger individuals do better, excel more, and develop a better sense of how the world works if they live, if they are raised in a structured environment.  In other words, the Family should have rules... do's and don'ts of what to do and how to behave.  Structure allows people to know and understand how things work, and how to accomplish goals.  Unstructured Family Environments have a much higher tendency to develop young individuals who accomplish less, experience less happiness, and achieve fewer goals in life.  The Family Meeting is  a great place to establish a set of Family Rules.  A Family Member can suggest a rule, it can be discussed, and accepted or rejected by all members of the Family.
